It was active for 24 days and burned 23,707. The exact cause of the Palisades Fire is still under investigation. Authorities are exploring multiple theories, including the possibility of a rekindling of a previous fire from January 1, 2025, known as the Lachman Fire, or the ignition of a new fire at the same location. Investigators are also looking into the possibility of arson, fireworks, or unauthorized camping as the cause of the fire.

The Eaton Fire began at 6:18pm on the evening of January 7, 2025, just Northeast of the Mount Wilson Toll Road and Idlehour Trail Junction in the Altadena area of Pasadena. It was active for 24 days and burned 14,021 acres. Mandatory evacuation orders affected over 100,000 residents, particularly in Altadena and surrounding communities. 9,414 structures were destroyed and an additional 1,074 structures were damaged.
The exact cause remains under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest a possible link to Southern California Edison's inactive power lines, which may have been energized by nearby active lines, leading to ignition. Several lawsuits have been filed against Southern California Edison, alleging negligence in maintaining power lines and failing to de-energize them during high-risk conditions.
